On this basis, glass vessels were determined to have been used in Mesopotamia prior to their ap- pearance in Egypt.The period from around the six- teenth century BCE saw the first manufacturing of glass vessels through the so-called "core technique," in which a mud core was painted in glass solution, allowed to dry, and fashioned into a bowl, which was then cooled and had its mud core removed.
Less than a century later, glass vessels were being produced in large quanti- ties in Egypt through the new production method.
Examples include five glass vessels found in 1965 at the tomb of the powerful North- ern Yan (;jt$0 figure Ping Sufu 381-415)
